Wheat and corn test kits: match crop, pathogen and sample
A cereal-testing request can refer to a virus, a rust target or Fusarium graminearum. Match the full pathogen name to the product instead of selecting only by “wheat” or “corn.”
What to check first
The wheat stripe rust and Fusarium head blight IFUs specify wheat leaves and wheat heads; the southern corn rust IFU specifies corn leaves. These corrected specimen descriptions are preserved in both languages. WSMV and MCMV remain separate virus assays.

Selection questions to resolve
Does the WSMV kit also test for wheat stripe rust?
This kit targets Wheat streak mosaic virus. Wheat stripe rust is a different target and is listed separately; order by target rather than by the shared crop name.
Is MCMV testing the same as a general corn pathogen screen?
No. This kit targets Maize chlorotic mottle virus. A result from this target-specific test does not report results for the other corn pathogens in the catalog.
Is this wheat stripe rust or a corn rust assay?
This kit targets Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, using wheat leaves and wheat heads as stated in the IFU. Southern corn rust has its own Puccinia polysora kit.
Is this the same product as the Fusarium genus kit?
No. This kit names Fusarium graminearum and lists wheat leaves and wheat heads. The separate Fusarium spp. kit lists corn stalks and seeds. Check both target scope and sample type.
Can I use wheat leaves with the southern corn rust kit?
The stated sample is corn leaves and the target is Puccinia polysora. Do not substitute the wheat stripe rust workflow or assume other leaf types are covered.
Before you order
- Check the full target name, abbreviation and SKU; do not order solely from a common name or symptom description.
- Confirm that the actual specimen is within the IFU scope. Ask about unlisted matrices, preservation methods or specimen conditions.
- Read the matching IFU for preparation, controls, storage and result interpretation.
- Confirm equipment and program compatibility. Kits and the platform are separate products; do not assume any PCR instrument or third-party reader is compatible.
- For a quote, provide testing volume, existing equipment and destination, and confirm the sales pack, shipping and delivery arrangements.
